MEETING MINUTES for December 5, 2007
Meeting called to order at 8:15 AM.
Present: Carol Dobek, Bob Donahoe, Kathy Herrick, Dave Maynard, Don Ouellette,
Ron Rencurrel, Judy Parmelee and Jeff Smith.
Guests: Russ Sandborn;
Town selectman liaison ,Dave Schropfer
Minutes of November 7, 2007 were approved.
Brackett Road Issue: Dave Schropfer, Selectman liaison to the EBC, briefed us about the
proposed plan. Essentially, Route 6 will be widened and the intersection at Old County Lane
will be changed. The “final product” is apt to resemble the intersection of Main Street and 6A
in downtown Orleans. We would like a bike path to be made on the east side of Brackett Road
from Route 6 to the CCRT (2/10 mile). The Highway Survey Committee has recommended the
traffic plan which shows no bike trail but does include a sidewalk installed on the west side of
Brackett Road as they feel that is where the traffic is. Bikers cannot ride on a sidewalk (except
on Route 6). A sketch of the current plan was made and presented to us. This solution will require
town meeting approval, be expensive and may be some time away from implementation. It was
suggested that a preliminary hearing with the Board of Selectmen be arranged with participants of
the Highway Survey, PACE and the EBC so that each group might give their point of view to the
BOS. .
Pan-Mass Meeting: We reviewed the agenda for the upcoming scheduled for December 5th.
The agenda will include (a) the route through Eastham; (b) street crossings, (c) use of the CCRT,
(d) pre-event notification and (e) volunteer coverage. We will also check and see if Pan Mass pays
for police coverage as there is a lot of police participation in the PMC.
CCRT Issues:
Bob said that the price for the “Yield to Pedestrians” sign was $30.95 each. We would probably
need 2 signs for each street that crosses the CCRT in Eastham (Gov. Prence, Bridge, Samoset,
Old Orchard, Brackett Road and Nauset Road) for a total of $371 plus the bolts & shipping which
will probably total around $420. Our current account balance is about $920. Bob will find out what
steps need to be taken to implement this project before we vote on it. Don to check with Jon Peterson
re State responsibility for these signs.
Vice-Chair: Jeff Smith was elected the new Vice-Chair.
Resignation: Michael Kain has resigned and Kathy Herrick has been appointed to the EBC.
We were informed that we may have as many as 12 members on our committee.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 AM. Next meeting is Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 8:15 AM in the
Small Room.
